About

Terese Newman

I am a painter and graphic designer, originally hailing from San Diego, California where I was raised. My work blends expressive color, layered textures, and thoughtful composition to explore themes of identity, memory, and the natural world. With a background in both fine art and visual communication, my creative practice bridges the intuitive freedom of painting with the precision and clarity of design. I often rely on my colorful early upbringing – most especially the celebrations of my family’s Mexican-American culture.

My oil paintings often feature abstract landscapes and organic forms, inviting viewers into quiet, contemplative spaces. I aim for work that tells a story. Whether working on canvas or digital platforms, I am guided by a deep curiosity about how visual language shapes human experience. While mainly working in oil paints, she also works often with acrylic paints, watercolors, printmaking, and collage/multi-media.

Based in Windsor, Connecticut, I have exhibited in galleries and community spaces. I have been represented by the former Marilyn Butler Fine Arts and Indian Market in New Mexico.

As a designer, I collaborate with clients on design projects ranging from brand identity to book layout. My multidisciplinary approach allows me to move fluidly between mediums, always seeking connection between the emotional and the aesthetic.

I graduated from UConn Fine Arts with a BFA and received an MFA from The University of the Arts, Philadelphia. Upon graduating from UofA, I lived in New York City and later moved to the Colt Building in Hartford, Connecticut. During the early to late 1990s, I worked directly as an occasional assistant for Sol LeWitt.
